Super Compost Extract is beneficial soil biology, bottled. We have developed a method of cultivating soil biology which plants love. Through a careful extraction process we remove the biology from our cultivated medium into a water based liquid, which acts as a carrying medium to get the biology to you and then down around the roots of the plant where they will thrive, stimulating growth of the plant.
In every litre of Super Compost Extract you’ll find billions of living, breathing micro-organisms. In fact, a spoonful of this product contains more organisms than there have been humans on the planet. Ever! These beneficial organisms use oxygen in the carrying medium, which explains why the product has a limited life span. The good news is that plants love nothing more than the bottled biology provided in Super Compost Extract.
It depends on temperature. The cooler you keep the product (no lower than 4 degrees Celsius) the longer the shelf life. If you do not use the product immediately, we strongly advise you refrigerate in order to keep it viable. At room temperature the product will still be viable up to 60 hours from bottling (bottle date and time clearly marked on containers). Refrigerated product stays viable for around 120 hours. For best results use immediately.
Super Compost Extract is to be used as an inoculant and so can be used sparingly. You can look at dosage on the packaging.
We recommend using Super Compost Extract around once per month for plant remediation. For general use apply 3 times per year in order to keep plant vitality at a peak.
The above ground symptoms your plant displays are symptoms of the below ground conditions. Beneficial biology will work tirelessly for your plant, building soil structure, cycling nutrients into plant available form and defending the root zone against the bad guys. All in exchange for plant sugars.
Super Compost Extract works for all rooted plants, whether indoors or out, potted or unspotted, trees, bushes, shrubs and lawns. We highly recommend this product as a planting medium, used either as a root dip or a root drench.
Super Compost Extract can also be applied as a regular soil drench as each batch of product will contain a slightly different set of micro-organisms (perhaps 30-40 thousand different species). Applying Super Compost Extract regularly will build up sets of organisms, which will ensure optimal soil health resulting in optimal plant health.
Absolutely. The detrimental biology which harms plants thrive in reduced oxygen environments. If there is sufficient beneficial biology present, the disease causing organisms will not get a foot hold and will consequently go dormant or die.
Get the good biology present. They will build structure so that the oxygen can be pulled down with any water filtering through the soil.

The term mycorrhizal comes from the Greek words mykes, meaning fungus, and rhiza, meaning root.
Mycorrhizae are fungi which live symbiotically on (and sometimes within) the roots of plants. Mycorrhiza boost plant growth, extending the root system of the given plant. With sufficient mycorrhizal colonization, rooted plants can drastically increase the reach of nutrients and water that would otherwise be out of roots reach. 95% of all plants are known to form mycorrhizal associations of one sort or another.
59 Degrees inoculants make sure that the right conditions are there from the start, meaning that they can take hold and benefit the plant in the crucial early stages of life.
59 Degrees mixes are hugely diverse, containing the spores of anything from 15-40 species of native mycorrhizal fungi from across many different orders of the mushroom kingdom. With the growing recognition of the benefits of biodiversity, a 59 Degrees mycorrhizal mix will ensure you have given your plants the best possible selection of mycorrhizal partners from the outset.
Carefully sprinkle the mix into the container of Super Compost Extract (approx. 25g/10 litres is sufficient) and shake thoroughly, apply Super Compost Extract as directed on the container. Suggested application rates vary from 25g for a medium bare rooted plant or pot grown plant to 2g for a small bare root hedging plant. For optimal results add Mycorrhizal Spores to Super Compost Extract and apply according to instructions.
Definitely yes, but there is no getting around the fact that mycorrhizal associations are best and easiest formed early on in a tree's life. Anecdotal evidence suggests significant improvement in vigor, disease resistance, and drought tolerance with mycorrhizal inoculations of already established trees.
Pour 25 grams of mycorhizzal mix into 10 litres of Super Compost Extract (for recommended dosage of extract see dosage). Insert a fork gently into the root zone and slightly lever the soil upwards – this will create cracks and small air gaps in the soil. Remove the fork and wash a little extract into each of the holes. Heel the holes closed. Repeat at various points under the drip line of the plant.
The 59 Degrees Mycorrhizal Spores mix consist of a mixture of ecto and endo mycorrhizal spores (see the species list page for a full list) all hand picked and hand sorted, mixed with bio char. A small amount of natural additives are also added to encourage mycelial growth.
Bio char is an ideal carrier for mycorrhiza spores as it is highly porous, provides aeration and structure to the soil, and has the ability to absorb water, organic matter, nutrients and gases, providing the ideal environment for spores to germinate and other soil biota to thrive. Our bio char is produced from sustainably coppiced woodland.
Almost all plants will benefit from the species in our mixes, however our products are ideally suited to the later successional species of perennial plants (trees, bushes, shrubs). If what you are planting is not a tree then it will, with a few exceptions (such as brassicas and ericaceous plants), benefit from the endomycorrhizal species included in the mix.
The 59 Degrees Mycorrhizal Spores mixes are seasonal products, made each autumn for sale primarily during the planting season. To keep the mixture as viable and diverse as possible we collect spores right up until we start dispatching orders in the autumn. Therefore the mixes change composition slightly each year depending on what species we can get our hands on.
